Nationwide ATP Testing Service | Healthcare | Food & Beverage

Implementing a monitoring system to validate cleanliness has been shown to increase compliance to cleaning procedures from 40% to 82%. Since approximately 90% of your cleaning budget is spent on labor, it's important for the job to be done right the first time.

Visual inspection alone cannot determine the presence of surface contamination. Visual inspection does not produce reliable, quantifiable or truly actionable results. The Enviro Tek  Hygiene Management System does. One quick swab provides a rapid, objective measurement that accurately quantifies surface cleanliness. The Enviro Tek ATP Testing Service is a frontline tool in your arsenal to address factors that may contribute to infection and food-borne illness outbreaks.

Our Hygiene Management System does detects the presence of organic contamination you cannot see. In 30 seconds, this system allows you to assess and measure surface cleanliness, and validate the efficacy and performance of your cleaning procedures.

What is Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP)?

ATP is the molecule that provides energy for cellular metabolism and is present in all living cells. Consequently, it is present in any organic residue, e.g. body fluids, skin cells and microorganisms, making ATP an excellent marker for organic contamination or contamination from a biological source.

Just because an environmental surface looks clean does not mean it is clean. Microorganisms, biofilm and other biological residues are not visible to the unaided eye thus rendering the current visual inspection method for cleaning monitoring inadequate to the task. Adenosine triphosphate (ATP), has been found to be a sensitive indicator molecule for the presence of biological residues due to its universal presence in all living cells (microbes, animal and plant cells). An increase in “dirt” (biological residues) on a surface results in an increase in the amount of ATP present on that surface making ATP an effective marker for the assessment of the hygienic status of an environmental surface.

Collecting ATP from a contaminated surface is as easy as swabbing the area with real-time results only Enviro Tek's ATP TEsting Service can provide . The amount of ATP present on the swab is a quantitative measurement of the cleanliness of the surface tested. To determine the hygiene status of an environmental surface one must measure the amount of ATP present on the swab. Directly measuring the concentration of ATP on the swab requires extensive training, sophisticated equipment and time. It is therefore easier and faster to determine the amount of ATP on a swab indirectly. There are many different methods that are used for ATP determination, but the most successful technique is the bioluminescent method because of its sensitivity and wide dynamic range.
